Enhanced Transit Services Linking Madinah and Makkah

New Bus and Rail Schedules for Pilgrims

The Development Authority of the Al-Madinah Region has recently upgraded the transportation network by enhancing the bus services that link passengers from the Madinah station of the Haramain High Speed Railway to the Prophet’s Mosque. This improved service is accessible for users on a daily basis, from early morning at 7:00 AM till late evening at 11:00 PM, aligning with the train’s schedule.

In a concurrent development, the Saudi Arabia Railways (SAR) has responded to the growing need for transportation between the holy cities by increasing the frequency of the Haramain High Speed Railway services. Commencing in mid-April, new journeys have been scheduled, including an early departure at 6:00 AM from Madinah to the King Abdulaziz International Airport station in Jeddah, and another route at 7:30 AM from Madinah to Makkah, with a stop at the Al-Sulaymaniyah station in Jeddah.

The introduction of these additional routes is part of SAR’s strategic plan to incrementally boost the number of trips and enhance the overall capacity of the Haramain railway network. This network spans a 450-kilometre route connecting five stations, and it is a vital link for passengers travelling between Madinah and Makkah.

The Haramain High Speed Railway is renowned for its efficiency, speed, and safety, operating state-of-the-art electric trains that reach speeds of up to 300 kilometres per hour. Each train can accommodate 417 passengers across business and economy classes. Remarkably, the railway boasts a punctuality rate exceeding 95%, ensuring reliable travel for its users.
