KAUST Future Forum 2024: A Hub for Scientific Advancement

Insights on Research and Tech Partnerships from the Forum

The KAUST Future Forum 2024 recently wrapped up, marking the end of a series of sessions focused on fostering partnerships in research, technology, and entrepreneurship. The forum featured prominent figures from various sectors who engaged in dynamic discussions about the future of science and technology.

One of the pivotal discussions was steered by Abdulraheem Al-Gahmdi, Director of KAUST Academy, and included insights from Dr. Najla Altwaijry of SDAIA, Saud Alfaadhel, CEO of KAUST Academy, and Ian Campbell, Vice President of NTI. They explored themes such as investment in academia, drawing in talent, elevating women in science, and developing strategic partnerships aimed at generating valuable employment opportunities in line with Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030.

The importance of attracting talent to amplify impact was the focus of the second session, while the third session highlighted the achievements of the KAUST Innovation Center in Shenzhen, China. This center symbolizes the global strategic alliances KAUST has formed with international entities specializing in research and innovation. The session featured Hattan Ahmed, director of strategic partnerships at the center, and Dr. Khaled Salama, a professor of electrical and computer engineering at KAUST.

The fourth session delved into the creation of smart partnerships in the health and wellness sectors, anticipating future needs and advancements.

The forum concluded with a discussion on the groundbreaking coral reef restoration initiative, a first-of-its-kind large-scale project globally, which KAUST manages and funds in collaboration with NEOM. This initiative stands as a testament to the potential of strategic partnerships in driving significant scientific and environmental progress.
