The inaugural segment of Saudi Arabia’s visionary urban project, The Line at NEOM, is anticipated to reach completion in the year 2030, as per a top official involved with the initiative.
A recently shared progress update video from NEOM features Chief Development Officer Denis Hickey affirming the project’s commitment to achieving its bold development milestones.
Hickey remarks, The first phase of The Line will be complete by 2030. We are committed.
He further elaborates on the construction process, noting, We’ve tackled a lot of the foundational aspects, both concrete and conceptual. The construction of The Line is distinctive in its industrialization and its modular approach.
The video, made available through NEOM’s official YouTube channel, showcases the ongoing construction efforts at The Line, offering further insights into the project’s scope and ambition.
A voiceover in the video describes The Line as a groundbreaking shift in urban living. As the most extensive earthmoving operation globally, construction occurs continuously.
Hickey expresses his enthusiasm for the energy within Saudi Arabia and the unifying effect of the 2030 vision statement by the kingdom’s leadership. He considers NEOM to be the apex example of the transformative changes happening within the country, stating, It is truly exhilarating to be part of this change.
The narrator in the video speaks of a foundational shift that will redefine standards for living conditions. The Line is envisioned as a sustainable, zero-emission city addressing major urban challenges. This innovative approach promises a harmonious blend of nature conservation, sustainability, and economic growth, aimed at fostering a more optimistic future.
Hickey adds, This presents an opportunity to innovate a superior urban model that integrates seamlessly with the natural environment. We believe The Line will serve as a global exemplar.
The Line, the flagship venture within the $500 billion NEOM mega-development, is designed to be a futuristic city capable of housing 9 million inhabitants. The city will span 170 kilometers in length and ascend 500 meters in height, while occupying a mere 34 square kilometers. Inhabitants will have the luxury of reaching all essential services within a five-minute walk and can traverse the entire length of the city in just 20 minutes, thanks to a high-speed rail system.
