Saudi Arabia experienced a strong surge in point-of-sale transactions, reaching SR13.6 billion in the week ending June 28. This represents a 24.4% increase from the previous week, according to data from the Saudi Central Bank. The total number of transactions also grew by 8.6% to nearly 220 million.
Spending in the recreation and culture sector saw the highest jump, climbing 49.3% to SR294.7 million. Clothing and footwear followed closely, with a 44.2% rise in spending to SR830.9 million, while telecommunications spending increased by 38.7% to SR123.9 million.
Other notable increases were seen in public utilities, gas stations, health, and transportation. Jewelry sales rose 34.7% to SR352.7 million, and hotel expenditures climbed 28.3% to SR212.5 million. Education services and construction materials also experienced moderate growth.
Among Saudi cities, Hail recorded the largest increase in POS transaction value, up 41.5% to SR226.2 million. Abha, Madinah, and Jeddah also posted significant gains, with Riyadh maintaining the highest transaction value at SR4.68 billion and over 70 million transactions.
Overall, the data reflects robust consumer activity across sectors and regions, highlighting strong economic momentum in Saudi Arabia.
