OpenAI Investment Talks: Stargate Project Funding Grows

Major global investors eye large stakes in OpenAI's AI and Stargate initiatives

OpenAI is seeking substantial new investment to support its AI model development and the ambitious Stargate infrastructure project.

The company has reportedly engaged with major potential backers, including Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund, India’s Reliance Industries, and existing investor MGX from the United Arab Emirates. Each may contribute hundreds of millions of dollars, according to sources familiar with the discussions.

SoftBank is leading this funding round, while additional talks are underway with investors such as Coatue and Founders Fund. OpenAI is said to be targeting at least $100 million from each of these firms, with plans to secure up to $17 billion more by 2027.

Earlier meetings between OpenAI’s CEO and India’s IT Minister focused on building a cost-effective AI ecosystem in India, followed by further fundraising discussions in the UAE.

OpenAI and the involved parties have not publicly commented on these investment talks.
