Aramco and SLB’s Digital Solutions for Emission Reduction

Partnership aims to commercialize digital tools to cut greenhouse gas emissions

Aramco and SLB have partnered to develop and commercialize digital solutions aimed at reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions in the industrial sector.

These solutions will be integrated into SLB’s digital sustainability platform, enhancing their collaboration from 2022. The platform helps industrial companies move toward net zero by facilitating the measurement, reporting, and verification (MRV) of emissions. This data aids in compliance and allows for strategic decarbonization efforts, such as boosting energy efficiency, cutting methane emissions, and advancing carbon capture, utilization, and storage (CCUS) initiatives.

Data is essential to support increasing calls for emissions transparency, and taking decisive actions on decarbonisation investments, said Rakesh Jaggi, president of Digital and Integration at SLB. He emphasized that the platform will help leverage data to drive emission reductions and expand SLB’s solutions with Aramco’s technologies.

The agreement outlines the development of several digital solutions, including Aramco’s Combined Heat Power (CHP) optimization and Flare Monitoring System (FMS) to improve energy efficiency and reduce field emissions. A new co-developed decarbonization planning solution will forecast emissions and simulate scenarios to find optimal mitigation pathways. These solutions will utilize SLB’s platform capabilities in security, data management, analytics, and AI on a global scale.

This agreement marks another milestone in our partnership with SLB, said Walid Al Naeem, Aramco Engineering VP & Chief Engineer. He highlighted Aramco’s ongoing efforts to mitigate GHG emissions using their technologies and the significance of this collaboration.

The partnership also aims to demonstrate their commitment to GHG emissions reduction and talent development in Saudi Arabia.
