A young Chinese student, Alia Kong, is using metaverse technology to connect students from China and Saudi Arabia, aiming to introduce Saudi culture to her peers in Hong Kong. At just 13, Alia leads the Superbund Alpha Project, allowing students to create virtual avatars and spaces in the metaverse to promote cultural exchange.
Alia envisions this platform as a way for students from Riyadh and Hong Kong to forge strong links through a virtual workshop. She has also organized an immersive experience to showcase Saudi culture to her classmates. Her journey began at age eight when she founded the Kids Power Society, a non-profit focused on cultural education and mental wellness.
Alia plans to host the Superbund Event Day, connecting students virtually and in person in both regions. Her interest in Saudi culture is inspired by her godfather, Alaudeen Alaskary, a former Saudi consul-general in Hong Kong and now an advisor to the project. Alia, who has visited Saudi Arabia, intends to organize a student trip to explore the country’s cultural history.
In July 2025, the Superbund Virtual Society event will gather over 100 participants from Hong Kong, China, Canada, and Saudi Arabia. Alia believes emerging technologies, like blockchain, can register digital assets, impacting reality through virtual creations. She envisions a collaboration where older generations develop technology hardware, while younger ones create software content, bridging generational gaps.
Over the past five years, the Kids Power Society has published four science fiction books with contributions from children worldwide, donating proceeds to hospitals in Vancouver and Hong Kong.
