Riyadh Powers Up: EVIQ Launches First High-Speed EV Charging Station

Saudi Arabia's EV Infrastructure Boost with New Fast Chargers

In an effort to electrify its transportation sector, Riyadh has seen the inauguration of the first rapid charging station by the Electric Vehicle Infrastructure Company (EVIQ). This marks a significant milestone in the city’s adoption of clean transportation technologies. The new facility is equipped with a pair of high-voltage quick chargers, each boasting a capacity of over 100 KW, thus enabling as many as four electric vehicles (EVs) to replenish their batteries concurrently.

Mohammad Baker Gazzaz, the Chief Executive Officer of EVIQ, emphasized the company’s commitment to expanding the charging network. The ambitious project aims to install more than 5,000 fast chargers at approximately 1,000 sites throughout the Kingdom by the year 2030. This expansion is seen as a crucial step in fostering a more sustainable and eco-friendly transportation system.

EVIQ is a collaborative venture, born from the partnership between the Public Investment Fund (PIF) and the Saudi Electricity Company (SEC). The organization is focused on bringing advanced electric vehicle charging solutions to the market expeditiously, noted Gazzaz. By providing state-of-the-art infrastructure, EVIQ is playing a pivotal role in supporting the transition to electric mobility in Saudi Arabia.
