Saudi Arabia Launches Space Talent Nurturing Program

The Madarik Initiative: Shaping Careers in the Space Sector

Physical workshops will be conducted in Riyadh and Jeddah, while participants from across the Kingdom can join in through virtual platforms.

The Communications, Space and Technology Commission (CST) in Saudi Arabia has announced the introduction of the ‘Madarik’ Programme, an innovative platform designed to cultivate local talent, promote sustainable development, and incorporate global expertise to create a variety of career opportunities within the space industry. This programme is set to build a strong knowledge base in space sciences, leading participants through an educational experience that will bolster their capabilities within the cosmic arena.

A network of prestigious academic partners, including the International Space University of France, Georgia Institute of Technology, Thunderbird School of Global Management, BAE Systems, and Al-Yamamah University, are working in concert with CST to present a versatile curriculum available in Riyadh, Jeddah, and online throughout Saudi Arabia.

There are three specialized courses offered: Space Business, focusing on the economic aspects and project management in the cosmos; Space Software and Data, concentrating on the necessary software and data sources for space missions and satellite applications; and Space Engineering, which delves into the specifics of spacecraft design, maintenance, and control.

The Space Business course is tailored for recent graduates and seasoned professionals in fields like strategy, business management, economics, and law. Similarly, the Space Software and Data course is aimed at those with computer science, data science, and cybersecurity backgrounds. The Space Engineering course, on the other hand, is crafted for fresh graduates and individuals with engineering backgrounds.

CST welcomes Saudis who meet the eligibility requirements, such as holding a minimum of a bachelor’s degree in a relevant subject, English proficiency, and meeting all other registration criteria, to apply for the ‘Madarik’ Programme.

The initiative will take place from May 5 to August 15, 2024, with participants expected to commit to the full duration of the program.
