The custodians of the Grand Mosque in Makkah, a central place of worship in Islam, have recently modernized the pilgrimage experience. They’ve done so by integrating cutting-edge artificial intelligence (AI) and digital technologies. Their goal is to elevate the spiritual journey for visitors and faithful pilgrims alike. To this end, 52 digital displays, covering 279 square meters, have been deployed both inside and around the mosque, presenting tailored religious content crafted by a team of esteemed scholars.
Customized Spiritual Messages
What sets these digital screens apart is the customized content they provide. Depending on whether it’s a regular day, the holy month of Ramadan, or the time of the Hajj pilgrimage, the guidance displayed changes to suit the specific occasion. Moreover, this content is available in multiple languages, thanks to the dedicated efforts of translators, catering to the international community of pilgrims speaking a myriad of languages.
Non-Stop Digital Assistance
Pilgrims have 24/7 access to these screens, which are thoughtfully placed at strategic locations such as entry and exit points, courtyards, and pathways within the mosque. This ensures that guidance is always at hand for the pilgrims, whenever they require it throughout their visit.
Intelligent Guidance Companion
Additionally, a sophisticated guidance robot has been introduced. This innovative robot distributes important brochures and literature to assist pilgrims with their religious rites. It comes loaded with informative content that pilgrims can interact with and share through their mobile devices, providing a seamless and modern religious experience.
As society progresses towards greater digital integration, the introduction of AI and digital tools at the Grand Mosque signifies a significant step forward. It not only improves the pilgrimage experience but also represents the harmonious integration of technology with faith, broadening access to religious practices and enriching them for all.
