Saudi Arabia is pioneering digital technology for its citizens, residents, visitors, and businesses, according to Ahmed Alsuwaiyan, Governor of the Kingdom’s Digital Government Authority (DGA).
The Kingdom has made significant strides in health, municipal services, and education. Alsuwaiyan highlighted that Saudi Arabia is now among the top 10 countries globally for digital government, ranking sixth in the Global E-Government Development Index. This reflects the government’s commitment to becoming a leading digital state and enhancing service efficiency.
Saudi Arabia holds the fourth position worldwide, first in the region, and second in Asia in the United Nations e-Government Development Index. Additionally, it ranks second globally for digital services among G20 countries and seventh in the e-Participation Index. The Kingdom advanced 25 places in the 2024 UN e-Government Development Index, breaking into the top 10 globally and becoming the first Middle Eastern country to achieve this feat.
The national transformation plan, “Vision 2030,” has been a key driver of this progress, elevating the Kingdom from 52nd place in 2018 to sixth this year. Saudi Arabia also climbed 32 spots in the Human Capital Index, now leading globally in digital government skills.
Riyadh ranks third worldwide in the UN e-Government Development Index, following Tallinn and Madrid, and holds the top position in the G20 region. The city excels in regulatory frameworks and providing essential public service information.
Alsuwaiyan attributed these accomplishments to a focus on impactful technology and effective public-private partnerships. Improvements in infrastructure and a supportive investment environment have also played crucial roles in Saudi Arabia’s leadership in digital government practices.
