Hoffmann Green Cement Technologies, a pioneering French company, announced the commencement of construction for its very first Hoffmann cement facility in Rabigh, Saudi Arabia, known as H-KSA 1.
The initiation of the Rabigh plant construction comes on the heels of a binding 22-year exclusive licensing agreement with the Shurfah Group, a prominent Saudi conglomerate with extensive real estate interests, including a vast residential portfolio of over 13,800 homes and investments surpassing $1.6 billion (SAR6 billion).
Under the agreement, Shurfah Group is entrusted with the financing, construction, and operation of four Hoffmann Green production facilities in Saudi Arabia and will have the exclusive rights to market the company’s cements in the region.
The completion of the inaugural plant is anticipated by the close of 2025.
Since its establishment in 2014, Hoffmann Green has been recognized for producing and distributing ultra-low-carbon and clinker-free cements with a carbon footprint that is quintuple times lower than that of traditional cement. The company’s current operations include two production units in Bournezeau, France, both of which are powered by an eco-friendly solar tracker park.
Co-founders Julien Blanchard and David Hoffmann expressed their pride in reaching this significant first milestone with their partner Shurfah, precisely on schedule. “The laying of the foundation stone is a symbolic moment in any construction project. We are very proud to have reached this first milestone with our partner Shurfah, on schedule,” they said.
They further emphasized the importance of this step as a testament to the company’s international expansion and support of Saudi Arabia’s ambitious Vision 2030 initiative, aiming to decarbonize the Saudi construction sector by introducing several of their units and marketing their innovative 0% cement clinker.
Abdullah Al Majed, Founder and Chairman of Shurfah Holding, highlighted that decarbonizing smart cities is a crucial objective for both Shurfah Holding and Saudi Arabia at large. He recognized the Hoffmann Green partnership as a strategic alignment with the Vision 2030 Plan, which aspires to foster sustainable development within the Saudi economy. Al Majed expressed eagerness to advance construction efforts to deliver Saudi Arabia’s first sustainable 0% clinker cement to the marketplace.
