The KAUST Future Forum 2024 has officially begun, hosted by the King Abdulaziz City for Science and Technology (KACST) in Riyadh’s dynamic ‘the Garage’ startup hub. This event, orchestrated by King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST), brings together a diverse group of officials, research and innovation experts, academics, and research center representatives.

Professor Tony Chan, the president of KAUST, expressed the institution’s dedication to furthering significant advancements that will bolster the Kingdom’s 2030 vision. He emphasized KAUST’s relentless commitment to establishing a premier global university with a focus on research excellence, innovation, and nurturing talent.

Chan revealed that KAUST is embarking on a new strategic direction to amplify its impact, designed to resonate with the national priorities of the Kingdom. This strategy aims to facilitate the commercialization of research and maximize community benefits while steering partnerships to support these objectives. The forum offered a prime opportunity to showcase these strategic intents and reaffirm KAUST’s dedication to its new course.

The event featured seven discussion panels with 47 expert speakers, delving into topics such as energy, health, the environment, academic investment, talent attraction, the empowerment of women in science, and the development of strategic partnerships.

An exhibition highlighted 20 leading projects that exemplify KAUST’s drive to effectuate impactful progress within the Kingdom. These projects align with the latest research, development, and innovation priorities set forth by the Crown Prince and Chairman of the KAUST Board of Trustees in 2022, aiming to boost research investment in the Kingdom to 2.5% of GDP and create valuable science and technology employment opportunities. Among the projects on display were innovations in coral reef restoration, solar-cell technology, and AI-based medical diagnostics.

Additionally, the forum featured the presentation of a working paper titled ‘Media and Scientific Research … a Partnership for a Promising Future’. It shed light on the Saudi Press Agency’s media initiative to promote scientific research, innovation, and strategic alliances.
