The Ministry of Energy in Saudi Arabia and the futuristic city project NEOM have established a partnership aimed at injecting cutting-edge technologies into the nation’s energy industry.
This collaboration is marked by the signing of a memorandum of understanding, which is designed to bolster cooperation and craft a strategic approach for evolving the energy sector with contemporary advancements, as reported by the Saudi Press Agency.
Within the framework of the agreement, the two parties will monitor their accomplishments, identify areas that require enhancement, and regularly assess the progression of their initiatives.
Moreover, the partners are committed to delivering technical and organizational remedies to advance the deployment of renewable energy and hydrogen technologies, as well as sustainability measures. Their focus will also extend to nurturing innovation and discovering effective mechanisms within the sector.
The agreement aims to synchronize the efforts of both parties with those of the energy system entities, including the Water and Electricity Regulatory Authority, the Nuclear and Radiological Regulatory Commission, and King Abdullah City for Atomic and Renewable Energy, among others.
In a significant move last October, NEOM’s water and electricity offshoot, ENOWA, announced its initiative to play a significant role in minimizing the carbon footprint associated with the energy-demanding desalination process.
During a discussion with Arab News at the Middle East and North Africa Climate Week forum held in Riyadh, ENOWA’s CEO Peter Terium emphasized the importance of harnessing renewable energy to curtail harmful emissions in both the regional and global context.
