A delegation from New Jersey, led by Governor Phil Murphy and First Lady Tammy Murphy, began a six-day economic mission in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. The group aims to strengthen partnerships in technology, artificial intelligence, gaming, and other sectors, focusing on expanding trade and investment between New Jersey and Saudi Arabia.
During the trip, Governor Murphy met with international and local journalists to discuss economic collaboration. He also formalized an agreement between Rutgers University and King Saud University, targeting joint research in public policy, urban development, and business management. This partnership will encourage student and faculty cooperation, using the strengths of both institutions.
The delegation attended a business roundtable with Abdallah S. Jum’ah of the U.S.-Saudi Business Council and the Saudi Investment Bank, highlighting New Jersey’s advantages for Saudi companies looking to expand. Other meetings included discussions with the Saudi Exports Development Authority about boosting Saudi investments in New Jersey.
Cultural exchange was also a key focus, with visits to Diriyah, the historic birthplace of Saudi Arabia, and networking events hosted by U.S. diplomatic officials. The delegation explored academic cooperation at Princess Nourah Bint Abdulrahman University, discussing opportunities for research and exchange programs.
Sports and gaming were highlighted in talks with Saudi Arabia’s Vice Minister of Sport. Plans were discussed for joint initiatives around major upcoming events like the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup and the 2026 FIFA World Cup, as well as collaboration in esports development.
This mission marks a significant step in deepening economic, academic, and cultural ties between New Jersey and Saudi Arabia, paving the way for future joint ventures and knowledge exchange.
