The Saudi Ports Authority, known as Mawani, has recently expanded its maritime connections by incorporating a novel shipping route, the JDX service, in collaboration with the German shipping giant Hapag-Lloyd. This service enhances the connectivity between the Kingdom and various African seaports, signaling a significant boost in intercontinental trade.
Mawani’s strategic initiative underscores its commitment to bolstering the trade flow between Saudi ports and the wider global network. This move is in line with the authority’s dedication to establishing Saudi Arabia as a pivotal logistics nexus, bridging Asia, Africa, and Europe. It is anticipated to invigorate the supply chain dynamics in accordance with the aspirations outlined in the National Transport and Logistics Strategy.
Featuring weekly voyages, the JDX service links Jeddah Islamic Port with Tangier, Morocco, and Damietta, Egypt. The service boasts a capacity of up to 4,253 20-foot equivalent units (TEUs). Jeddah Islamic Port’s state-of-the-art infrastructure and the plethora of shipping options it provides have garnered international recognition. The port has been lauded with several accolades, including the ‘Advanced Infrastructure’ award at the ‘Landmarks in Logistics Summit 2023’, the ‘Port of the Year’ at the ‘Transport and Logistics Awards’ in the UAE, and the prestigious ‘Best Port’ title at the 2022 Global Green Shipping Summit in Rotterdam.
