Saudi Arabia is pursuing partnerships with Chinese firms in the automotive and automation sectors as a high-ranking industrial official begins an East Asian tour this week.
Bandar Alkhorayef, Saudi Arabia’s industry and mineral resources minister, is leading a delegation to Guangzhou, Hong Kong, and Singapore. The visit, running until September 8, aims to enhance relations and explore joint ventures.
In recent years, China and Saudi Arabia have bolstered their ties, contrasting with their strained relationships with the United States. Saudi Arabia seeks to diversify its economy and establish itself as an industrial hub in the Middle East. Meanwhile, Chinese companies are looking to expand into overseas markets amid increasing US restrictions.
“The delegation’s visit to China supports our goal of becoming a key automotive hub in the region and a leader in innovative, eco-friendly vehicle solutions,” stated Alkhorayef’s office.
During their time in Guangzhou, meetings will be held with key players such as GAC Group, a leading electric vehicle manufacturer, lithium battery producer General Lithium, and technology giant Huawei.
