In an announcement that signals continued ambition for Saudi Arabia’s special economic zone, Neom’s leadership has unveiled a new, audacious project called Aquellum. This development is planned to be seamlessly integrated along the Gulf of Aqaba’s coastline, nestled within a towering 450-meter mountain range. Its entrance will be ingeniously hidden, with access provided by an underground canal.
Aquellum is conceived as a “luxury and experiential space” that aims to redefine the norms of architectural design and construction. At this stage, specific details regarding the timeline, construction methodology, and financial outlay of the project remain under wraps.
Entering Aquellum will be an experience in itself, with a floating marina serving as the gateway where guests will embark on a vessel designed specifically for the journey through the subterranean waterway.
Once inside, visitors will encounter a 100-meter “vertical experience,” an atrium-like space that ascends from the water to the mountain’s crest. The plan includes a range of amenities such as hotel accommodations, residential units, retail outlets, and venues for leisure and entertainment.
A central boulevard will spiral through the core of the development, leading to a hub known as “the Generator.” This area is designated for research laboratories that will support innovation and creative work.
An internal transit system is also in the works to facilitate movement to the higher levels, enabling easy access to homes, hotel rooms, and rooftop gardens that offer panoramic views of the coast.
The announcement of Aquellum adds to a series of recent disclosures about Neom’s expansion, including projects like Norlana, Epicon towers, Leyja, Siranna, and Utamo, further cementing the region’s status as a hotbed of futuristic urban development.
