Saudi Arabia has unveiled a high-tech enhancement to passport control at one of its principal airports by rolling out biometric e-gate scanners.
The initial phase of the deployment of e-Passport gates was launched at King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh, specifically at Terminals 3 and 4, aiming to expedite the travel process for passengers.
The launch event was graced by significant figures, including Abdullah bin Sharaf Alghamdi, head of the Saudi Data and AI Authority (SDAIA), and Abdulaziz bin Abdullah Al Duailej, President of the General Authority of Civil Aviation (GACA).
Director General Sulaiman bin Abdulaziz Al-Yahya, alongside Esam Abdullah Alwagait of the National Information Centre (NIC), shared insights about the project. Al Yahya emphasized that the biometric e-gates are designed to enable travelers to proceed with their travel formalities in an autonomous manner, reducing reliance on staffed checkpoints.
He further pointed out that the system is not only a time-saver for travelers whose biometric data is registered within the passport system but also a strategic enhancement in the ongoing efforts to elevate the travel experience. The introduction of such digital solutions underscores the commitment to improving service quality for citizens, residents, and visitors alike.
