Red Sea Global (RSG) has announced its plans to unveil a new golfing jewel, Shura Links, situated on the scenic Shura Island in the Red Sea by 2025. This prestigious addition to the region’s attractions will feature Saudi Arabia’s inaugural 18-hole golf course, complete with a panoramic view of the marina and the Red Sea’s azure waters.
In a recent statement, RSG emphasized their dedication to eco-friendly practices for Shura Links. The golf course is being created with the aid of top environmental consultants, focusing on minimizing water usage and innovating in water recycling techniques. These measures are poised to enhance local ecosystems significantly.
John Pagano, CEO of RSG, expressed his excitement for the project, “Shura Links promises an unmatched golfing experience against the backdrop of the Red Sea. Our goal transcends providing a visually breathtaking course. We are intent on establishing Shura Links as a benchmark for sustainability in the industry, implementing state-of-the-art turf management and meticulous foliar nutrition while prioritizing environmental reverence. The fairways are already being turfed, and we eagerly await the arrival of the course’s first players.”
The clubhouse, a Foster and Partners’ marvel, mirrors the overarching Coral Bloom design theme of Shura Island, also crafted by the same firm. The design draws inspiration from the unique flora and fauna indigenous to Saudi Arabia.
The course itself is a collaborative creation involving globally acclaimed golf course architect Brian Curley, known for his work on the renowned Mission Hills Golf Club. Spanning 6,858 meters with a par of 72, Shura Links offers a variety of tees per hole, ensuring diversity, playability, and a memorable experience. Particularly noteworthy are holes four through seven that line the coastline, and the concluding holes from 14 to 18, which boast views of the open sea or channel, with the clubhouse overlooking the final 18th hole.
Designers have ensured Shura Links is accessible to novices by incorporating generous teeing areas, while still including elements to challenge seasoned players, potentially positioning the course as a future host for major golfing tournaments.
Moreover, the course includes a two-acre putting course, which is expected to be recognized as “one of the world’s best” according to the design team.
