In an ambitious move, Saudi Arabia is joining forces with a globally distinguished architecture firm to create a towering skyscraper that could reach 2 kilometers into the sky, as reported by Architects’ Journal.

This initiative, which is backed by the Public Investment Fund (PIF), is in collaboration with Foster + Partners. The proposed skyscraper in Riyadh is poised to be a multi-billion-dollar endeavor, significantly surpassing the height of the current record-holder, the Burj Khalifa in Dubai, which stands at 828 meters.

According to insider information, Architect’s Journal has indicated that several prominent firms, including the designers of the Burj Khalifa, Skidmore, Owings and Merrill (SOM), were considered for this colossal project.

Strategically positioned near the King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh, the proposed structure would not only redefine the city’s skyline but also set a new benchmark for architectural marvels around the world.

Reports suggest that the cost of erecting such an unprecedented structure could exceed $5 billion. Foster + Partners is not new to Saudi Arabia’s landscape, as they are currently involved in three airport projects within the kingdom, including the victorious design for Abha Airport’s new terminal in the Aseer Region, which draws inspiration from the traditional Rijal Almaa village.

The skyline of Riyadh, already dotted with impressive structures including the 385-meter-high PIF Tower, the mixed-use Burj Rafal, and the distinctive 302-meter Kingdom Centre, would be utterly transformed by the addition of a 2km supertall skyscraper, making it a city that reaches towards the heavens.
