Saudi Arabia and Ethiopia are working to expand economic collaboration, especially in agriculture, manufacturing, and tourism. This development follows a recent forum in Riyadh that brought together over 150 representatives from both countries’ public and private sectors.
The gathering, organized by the Federation of Saudi Chambers, was the first major event since the creation of the Saudi-Ethiopian Business Council. The council aims to deepen trade and investment ties, reflecting Saudi Arabia’s broader strategy to engage with African economies and tap into new markets.
Ethiopian officials highlighted the nation’s strong economic growth and improvements in infrastructure, inviting Saudi investors to participate in sectors like agriculture, food processing, tourism, hospitality, and manufacturing. Ethiopia’s large population and natural resources make it an attractive destination for investment, though current trade between the two nations remains modest.
The business council, formally established last year, is expected to play a key role in unlocking new opportunities and supporting a closer economic partnership. Ethiopia, with over 126 million people and rapid economic growth, is striving to reach lower-middle-income status by building on recent development gains.
