The Chairman of the Islamic Development Bank Group, Dr. Muhammad Al Jasser, held a strategic meeting with Ahmed Shide, the Ethiopian Minister of Finance, at the ministry’s headquarters. This significant dialogue took place on the margins of the 37th African Union Summit hosted in Addis Ababa.
During the discussions, both parties explored avenues to amplify developmental collaboration, delved into the realm of trade financing and considered diverse strategies for propelling economic development initiatives and educational scholarship opportunities.
Minister Shide expressed that Ethiopia has adeptly navigated through numerous adversities, registering triumphs in both economic and social sectors. In a gesture to further strengthen regional integration and development, he extended an invitation to the IsDB to participate in the Horn of Africa Initiative, a project where Ethiopia is at the forefront.
Dr. Al Jasser, in turn, underscored the enduring and strategic ties linking Ethiopia with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, and noted the IsDB’s involvement in 44 projects within Ethiopia. He conveyed the bank’s unwavering commitment to support Ethiopia’s growth, especially through capacity building in Islamic finance.
In a move that underscores the IsDB’s dedication to social welfare, Dr. Al Jasser oversaw the finalization of a grant financing agreement with the Ethiopian Yetim Children Care Center (YCCC). The accord is designed to enhance the orphanage’s existing facilities, thereby providing increased accommodation and vocational training opportunities for orphans across Ethiopia.
