Italy and Saudi Arabia have entered a new partnership aimed at enhancing energy collaboration. This agreement, announced by Italy’s Environment and Energy Security Minister Gilberto Pichetto Fratin, includes the potential supply of Saudi-produced hydrogen to Europe.
The five-year memorandum of understanding was formalized in Riyadh, where Minister Fratin met with Saudi Energy Minister Prince Abdulaziz bin Salman Al-Saud. The agreement emphasizes areas such as renewable energy, methane emission reduction, power interconnections, and advanced technologies like carbon capture and storage.
Minister Fratin highlighted Italy’s strategic position as a gateway for renewable hydrogen and ammonia from Saudi Arabia into Europe. He pointed out that this route would be more advantageous compared to alternatives in the North Sea.
