Saudi Minister of Finance to Chair International Monetary and Financial Committee
Saudi Arabia’s Minister of Finance, Mohammed Al-Jadaan, has been selected to chair the International Monetary and Financial Committee (IMFC). The IMFC is a policy advisory body to the board of governors of the International Monetary Fund (IMF).
On Wednesday, members of the committee appointed Al-Jadaan for a three-year term starting on January 4. He will succeed Nadia Calvino, Spain’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Economic Affairs and Digital Transformation, who has chaired the committee since January 3, 2022.
“Saudi Arabia being chosen to chair the International Monetary and Financial Affairs Committee demonstrates the international community’s confidence in its regional and global position, as well as its pivotal role in promoting multilateral action,” said Al-Jadaan.
He added, “I am eager to collaborate with the committee members and the management of the IMF to enhance the stability and effectiveness of the global monetary and financial system, and to advance global economic growth prospects.”
In addition to his role as Minister of Finance, Al-Jadaan also serves on the Ministerial Council of the OPEC Fund for International Development and the boards of governors of various international financial institutions, including the IMF, the World Bank, the Arab Monetary Fund, the Islamic Development Bank, and the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank.
Furthermore, Al-Jadaan leads the Saudi delegations at meetings of G20 finance ministers and central bank governors. He is also a member of the boards of directors of the Kingdom’s Public Investment Fund and Saudi Aramco.
