AlUla to Host Stellar Third Edition of Richard Mille Desert Polo

Premium Polo Competition Returns Amidst AlUla's Desert Splendor

The captivating landscape of AlUla will once again serve as the backdrop for the Richard Mille AlUla Desert Polo, slated to take place at the Equestrian Village from January 17 to 20. This event marks the third installment of the groundbreaking polo tournament hosted in a desert setting and promises to surpass previous years in grandeur and excitement.

This unique sporting event, a collaborative effort between the Saudi Polo Federation and Richard Mille, coincides with the celebrated Winter at Tantora festival. The tournament will feature elite polo athletes, including the legendary Argentine player Adolfo Cambiaso from the renowned La Dolfina team, and his son Poroto Cambiaso, who will continue his father’s sporting legacy. They are joined by the famed Richard Mille ambassador, Pablo MacDonough.

Competitors will display their remarkable equestrian abilities and compete in high-stakes matches over four days. Eight teams, each comprising a professional player, an international patron, and another dignitary, will vie for the coveted Desert Polo trophy.

The Royal Commission for AlUla (RCU) has expressed its excitement for the tournament’s return. Rami AlMoallim, RCU Vice President of Destination Management and Marketing, anticipates a record-setting turnout, building on the success of the inaugural event in 2020 and its follow-up in 2022.

Peter Harrison, the Richard Mille EMEA chief executive, reaffirmed the brand’s dedication to fostering polo in Saudi Arabia. He predicts the 2024 tournament will be a remarkable showcase of the sport against AlUla’s extraordinary desert vistas.

The Richard Mille AlUla Desert Polo has quickly become a highlight in both the international equestrian and Saudi Arabian sports calendars, attracting royalty, dignitaries, and top-tier teams like La Dolfina. Beyond being a competitive event, it also celebrates the Kingdom’s rich equestrian heritage and its cultural and artistic connections.

AlMoallim emphasized polo’s enduring global prestige as the “Sport of Kings” and its historical significance in Saudi Arabia. The desert polo tournament not only honors the sport’s legacy but also underscores the Kingdom’s ongoing affinity for equestrian pursuits.

With the inclusion of professional female players, the upcoming Richard Mille AlUla Desert Polo event is poised to attract celebrities, enthusiasts, and international spectators. It promises a blend of luxury hospitality, live entertainment, and top-tier polo action, making it an essential event for fans of the sport and those seeking a unique experience.
