The tax authorities in Saudi Arabia are calling on all taxpayers to capitalize on a fines and penalties waiver initiative before it comes to an end in July. The Zakat, Tax and Customs Authority (ZATCA) has announced a deadline of June 30, 2024, for the ‘Cancellation of fines and exemption of financial penalties’ program.
This initiative encompasses waivers for several offences including delayed tax system registration, overdue payment penalties, tardy submissions of tax returns, inaccuracies in VAT returns, and non-compliance with VAT field control related to e-invoicing regulations, among other general rules.

To be eligible for the exemption, taxpayers must be enrolled in the tax system, submit all pending returns, and settle the principal tax debt. Moreover, the authority provides an option to pay such debts in installments.
Exemptions will be granted provided the request is made while the initiative is active and all installments are paid by their respective due dates as per the approved payment plan. However, the initiative does not cover penalties related to tax evasion or fines that were due before the initiative started.
For further details, including which penalties are eligible, conditions for exemption, and guidelines on installment payments, taxpayers are advised to visit the authority’s official website. ZATCA emphasizes the importance of utilizing this opportunity before the end of June and welcomes inquiries through various channels such as phone at 19993, Twitter @Zatca_Care, email at info@zatca.gov.sa, and their website at www.zatca.gov.sa.
