At the Global AI Summit in Riyadh, Aramco announced several new initiatives aimed at advancing digital solutions within its operations. The initiatives were presented by Ahmad Al-Khowaiter, Aramco’s EVP of Technology & Innovation.
Key highlights include:
- Collaborations to enhance next-generation industrial capabilities
- Deployment of supercomputing infrastructure for AI solutions
- Projects to boost AI development within Saudi Arabia
Al-Khowaiter emphasized the transformative potential of technologies like Generative AI and the Industrial Internet of Things, stating, Aramco is pioneering the use of these technologies at an industrial scale to add significant value across our operations.
Aramco signed Memoranda of Understanding (MoU) with several companies, including Cerebras Systems, FuriosaAI, and Rebellions, to explore collaboration in supercomputing and AI. Another MoU with SambaNova Systems aims to accelerate AI capabilities and adoption throughout the Kingdom.
They also announced the deployment of an AI supercomputer, powered by NVIDIA GPUs, to handle complex tasks such as analyzing drilling plans and geological data for low carbon intensity options.
In collaboration with Qualcomm Technologies, Aramco is deploying industrial generative AI solutions to improve facility monitoring, predictive maintenance, and autonomous drone use.
These initiatives are part of Aramco’s broader digital strategy, which includes the Saudi Accelerated Innovation Lab (SAIL) and the Global AI Corridor ecosystem. This strategy has already led to the creation of Aramco’s first large language model for industrial AI applications and the launch of the Eye on AI Program to enhance AI cybersecurity.
