The country produced nearly 30,000 AI-related studies, surpassing established research centers like the Netherlands, Singapore, and Russia, and underscoring its rapid ascent as a technology hub in the region.
This achievement aligns with Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030, which prioritizes building a knowledge-driven and diversified economy. The Global AI Competitiveness Index, developed through an analysis of over two million AI papers and patents, measures both the volume and influence of research output. Saudi Arabia’s rate of over 800 AI publications per million people highlights its commitment to advancing science and technology.
In addition to its research output, Saudi Arabia has made notable progress in AI patents, ranking 24th globally with more than 1,100 filings. While its patent count remains modest compared to global leaders, the country’s efforts reflect a growing emphasis on innovation and intellectual property.
Globally, the report highlights China’s dominance in AI research volume and the rising influence of East Asian countries. Meanwhile, Saudi Arabia continues to strengthen its position, recently surpassing the UAE as the top Arab nation in AI and earning high marks for its government strategy in the field.
