Saudi Arabia’s digital transformation reached new heights in 2024, establishing its leadership in global technology and innovation. Driven by Vision 2030, the Kingdom has implemented extensive digital initiatives across government, private sectors, and international partnerships.

A major milestone was creating a centralized data lake, integrating 27 large systems with over 322 systems in the National Data Bank, enhancing data quality and collaboration while reducing costs. The launch of ALLaM, an Arabic AI model, demonstrated Saudi Arabia’s dedication to cultural and technological advancement.

According to Louise Bou Rached from Milestone Systems, the focus on AI, IoT, 5G, and cloud infrastructure is pivotal for developing smart cities and digital governance. Initiatives like NEOM and The Line are redefining urban living with advanced technology and sustainability.

The use of advanced video management systems in smart city projects has improved security and efficiency, aligning with the Kingdom’s vision of creating a secure, intelligent ecosystem. AI also played a crucial role during Hajj, ensuring safety through real-time crowd analysis.

Arun Leslie John of Century Financial highlighted smart cities like NEOM for optimizing resource management and sustainability. AI is transforming sectors like healthcare and logistics, while Open RAN technology is revolutionizing telecommunications by enhancing network infrastructure.

Global AI Leadership

Saudi Arabia hosted the third Global AI Summit, reinforcing its status as a hub for AI innovation. The launch of the Open Access National Gateway and the National Semiconductor Hub further support scientific and technological advancements.

The Kingdom’s investment in space technology is driving diversification and technological independence, attracting global investments. Achievements in 2024 include high rankings in ICT and e-government indexes and significant investments in technology and data centers.

Future Prospects

Looking ahead to 2025, Saudi Arabia plans to expand its National Data Bank, strengthen AI adoption, and enhance the National Smart Cities Platform. In space exploration, a satellite for space weather investigation is planned as part of the Artemis 2 mission.

Saudi Arabia is set to continue its technological advancements, aiming to boost the ICT sector’s GDP contribution and create new growth opportunities, aligning with Vision 2030 goals.
