Saudi Arabia has launched a new international water research center through a collaboration between the Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture and King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST). This initiative, supported by Minister Eng. Abdulrahman Al-Fadley, aims to address key water challenges globally.
The center was unveiled during a dialogue on “Sustainable water management in arid and semi-arid regions,” part of the UNCCD Cop16 conference. It will serve as a global hub for applied research focusing on water economics, security, pollution, advanced technologies, and digital monitoring.
Located at KAUST, the center will leverage the university’s resources to advance sustainable solutions for water scarcity and pollution. It aims to foster cooperation with leading research institutions worldwide, enhancing scientific research and technology application to ensure water resource sustainability.
Moreover, the center seeks to bolster Saudi Arabia’s leadership in water research by developing modern technologies and improving global competitiveness. Research will cover areas such as water management in arid regions, pollution treatment, and innovations in water production and digital monitoring, supporting informed decision-making.
